The
counseling ministry at First Congregational
Church provides professionally trained help
which is sensitive to the clients' spiritual
perspective without imposing religious beliefs.
In complete confidentiality, you can obtain
assistance with marriage and family problems,
depression and anxiety, self-esteem issues,
substance abuse or co-dependency, stress
management, chronic illness, physical and sexual
abuse, and coping with loss and grief.
Our church is one of fourteen churches which
are affiliated with the Samaritan Counseling
Center serving Palm Beach, Martin, Broward, and
Dade Counties. Carol Lewis, a Florida
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, offers
individual, marital and family therapy at our
church office. She has worked as a
therapist on the staff of the Samaritan
Counseling Center for 20 years. Carol also
provides parenting classes as an educational
outreach.
There is a standard fee for
services, but adjustments may be made on the
basis of one's financial resources and as the
Center's funding allows. Insurance
policies often cover some of the costs.
The Samaritan Center, established in 1973, is
accredited by the Samaritan Institute and the
American Association of Pastoral Counselors.
These accreditations ensure that the counseling
services meet high professional and ethical
standards. The Samaritan program has been
recognized by the American Medical Association,
the American Association of Pastoral Counselors,
the President's Commission on Mental Health, and
major religious denominations.
